wake me up when the ICC indicts a sitting or former US president, or Tony Blair, or Angela Merkel.
Trump didnt run in 2016 as an extreme right winger. Even in 2024 he was still claiming he would end the wars and release the Epstein files. A number of people who voted for him now oppose him because he has increased the number of wars and done his best to cover up the Epstein corruption.
"people who voted for him"
Trump should at least be held accountable for what he is doing. Since he cannot legally have another term as president, he now goes berserk mode acting not for the country but for his person's sake
the point was that Trump was not voted in as a "charismatic" right wing figure, so that does not explain why he is more popular than Biden.
As far as I can see Trump has no respect for law at all Hypocrisy was called "the tribute that vice pays to virtue" by a French essayist. Trump doesnt feel the need to be hypocritical any more.
It is not really mysterious TPR. The ICC has been a puppet of the US; until very recently it has only indicted opponents of the US. Germany still supports the genocide in Gaza, although that support may be eroding over threats by the ICJ (NOT the ICC) to indict Germany for war crimes.
Perhaps I missed it, but I saw no mention in this thread, yet, of nuclear proliferation.
I can hardly wait to read an argument explaining why aggressive theocracies have a "right" to nuclear arms, too!
Sometimes reflexive ideology leads folks into silly places, so such an argument won't surprise me.
By the way, Trump didn't "cover up" the Epstein files. They've been released and there's an ongoing hearing. And -- guess what! -- during his questioning even Bill Clinton admitted (in so many words) that he doesn't know of Trump saying anything inappropriate about Epstein.
See Clinton's actual words in the news to see what I mean. And if you haven't already seen or heard them, consider expanding your news sources. Seriously.
Bill Clinton has my admiration for his fairness in that regard. Bill Clinton is among the "old school" Democrats, and it's too bad more younger ones don't follow his intelligent, reasonable example.
No, Trump was among the few who called out Epstein, early, and broke off the acquaintance. If you haven't already learned that before, then let me suggest again -- expanding one's news sources can be helpful.
It's not Trump who's worried about the Epstein files, folks. lol.
Democrats and Republicans all are nothing but a rich cabal of capitalists with their own interests.
Clinton was prominent inside the Epstein files and had log entries of flights on Epstein's plane, so no wonder he now protects other people.
As for the court hearing, I doubt anything will ever come out of it. Denmark and the UK have already made trials and house raids, has the US ever done anything against the involved?
And Trump: I always wonder if people see him as the one acting for personal gain only (as I do).
Let us be honest, why would anyone care 'for the nation'?
Trumo dragged the release of the files and that he 'broke off relations' means nothing to me. If he wanted to (or cared about the victims), he could have begun legal proceedings or similar. Why did he not? -> 1. not care about victims or 2. influenced/fear by/of other rich people
Trump isn't a prosecutor. He's never been a prosecutor. It's not remotely up to Trump to bring charges against anybody. Never has been.
What's clear -- to the amusement of many sensible people -- the clamor for "the Epstein files" isn't hurting Trump. It makes some of us laugh and say, "be careful what you wish for, folks -- you just might get it ."
As far as "protecting the victims" -- how does the current disclosure and hearing actually "protect the victims." Is the hearing going to construct a time machine, go back, and correct any offenses?
I don't mind the hearings, and bringing sunlight to the matter is a good idea. But it's not clear to me how that's going to do the "victims" any good at this point in history, realistically. If that can be explained, I'll certainly consider any sensible answers.
You say "capitalists" like that's a bad thing. I definitely prefer "capitalists" to firmly entrenched communist or socialist bureaucrats. But we're all welcome to our opinions.
Capitalists create things and if you don't like what they create, you're generally free not to buy it. Are you likewise free to ignore a communist or socialist bureaucrat? Of can they just tax you and order you around regardless of what you prefer?
And if you think a lot of communist or socialist bureaucrats don't care for their own "self-interest" I can only marvel, and wonder if you're in the market for a bridge. Do you think Stalin shared a tiny apartment with two other families? Do you think all socialist politicians own only one home, or haven't become wealthy in office?
Finally -- Trump doesn't even drink. lol. Over and over when people have attempted to throw mud at Trump, it's sometimes, I'd even say often, just come back to make the mud-hurlers look bad. Indeed, at times it feels much like "projection," to use the over-used word.
Finally, as far as "acting for personal gain," Trump has been shot at, repeatedly hounded legally, and had to spend a fortune on attorney's fees. And still, he doesn't even take his substantial salary as president.
Being president doesn't remotely seem to be a profitable enterprise for Trump -- far from it. Plus, he's an old dude, with a fortune already, he'd be unlikely to care a whole lot about a few more million. Get old and find out -- perspectives change as time passes.
People hang around others and listen to media that say, over and over (in effect), that that Trump guy is, oooh, just icky! Even to the point that some get upset if he tries to stop the trafficking of drugs or minors, or the spread of nuclear weapons!
Again, they're welcome to their opinion. But at some point, it begins to feel pretty stale.
