THE ATOMIC LEAGUE SEASON 1
The (formerly) @Puredication run Atomic Chess League (ACL) is back, with a new format of team matches with different time controls!
CONSTITUTION OF TEAMS
The Elite League will have four teams captained by the following players:
@wolfram_ep @NeverOFzero @ihatespammers @randoomplayer
To register, a player must post in the “Registration” forum thread, after which that player can be recruited by a team captain. Each team will consist of four players.
There are no restrictions as to who can be selected, yet @maxwellssilvrhammer has the right to step in if teams are poorly balanced.
Elite League teams must be submitted through DM to @maxwellssilvrhammer by July 8th.
After Elite League teams are formed, in case there are at least 16 players who registered but haven’t been recruited yet, those players can join the Challenger League.
Among players who haven’t been recruited yet, captains can volunteer, and recruit other remaining players.
There are no restrictions as to who can be selected, yet @HowlinD has the right to step in if teams are poorly balanced.
Challenger League teams must be submitted through DM to @HowlinD by July 10th.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
Each team of the same league takes part in a round-robin in 3 rounds. Every two weeks, a team will be paired against another, until all teams have played against each other. The team with the most rounds won is declared as the champion. Head-to-head results and game win rate are used in case of a tie.
MATCH FORMAT
Once teams have been paired, each captain will assign one of their players to each of the 4 time controls, 3+2, 3+0, 1+0, or 1/2+0, and message @maxwellssilvrhammer (or @HowlinD for the Challenger League) with which time control each team member will be playing.
Then, each team member shall coordinate a time to play their match with the player of the opposing team assigned the same time control. Once a set time is agreed upon, the players should post it in the “Scheduling and results” forum thread, and then report the results once that match has been played.
Match lengths are as follows:
3+2: 8 games match
3+0: 10 games match
1+0: 20 games match
1/2+0: 30 games match
If a match is “clinched”, either player may stop playing, regardless of color balance.
If a match ends in a draw, there is no tie breaker and each player scores ½ for their team.
The team which wins the most matches wins the round. If both teams are tied at 2-2, the average win rate for each board is calculated and used to determine the winner.
If any questions arise, feel free to DM me, or ask right here in the forum.

If I want to be leader of the challenger league, how do I do that?

Also, what about times and different time zones? How does that work?

You communicate with your opponent using UTC, and you both mention when you are available during the week, then you agree to when the match takes place. If you live far away generally you can find ways to play during the weekend, one during the morning and one during the evening.
