Did Magnus violate FIDE rule 4.2?

Looking at the pictures there was a clear touching and probably no announcement beforehand.

„4.2 Provided that he first expresses his intention (for example by saying „j’adoube“ or “I adjust”), the player having the move may adjust one or more pieces on their squares.“

Opinions?

Was there a problem over this in the press? I mean if nepo gripes about it maybe someone should bring him a happy meal.

He adjusted pieces without annunciation start the whole thing over again. The last 3 games don't count now. Lol

If Magnus had really broken the rules, the referee would have intervened. But he didn't. So Magnus didn't break the rule.

Nobody in Dubai is as good a chess police-person as you, and they're in desperate need of you posting the basic rules of chess.

My opinion is that that is not true.

Maybe next you can explain to him how en passant works. Why stop at quoting one rule?

I really hope we see Nepomniachtchi score a win. I'm still traumatized over young karjakin losing back in 2016 after missing a beautiful mate.

MC seems pretty pissed off when asked about it. Now I’ve only ever played a handful of OTB games because I’m a new player but I was told at my club, if you touch a piece during the game, you MUST move it. Hence, ‘sit on your hands’. I had no idea about ‘I adjust’. If it was an ‘involuntary touch’ then I’m not sure.. but if the rule applies to me, a total novice....... I’m obviously not an expert so I’m quite happy to listen to players with a lot more experience.

Would that be a reason to invalidate the game or does the opponent have to point it out at the time?

Even Caruana said if nobody is there, why to speak??!!

Magnus just adjusted the piece as he told in the press conference and he was angry about being asked it every WCC.
No rules violation there. A CM should know it better...

As per my understanding of FIDE rules (4.7) Nepo could have claimed illegal move before he played his move. If he didn't do it then there's no violation.

Anyways it would have been petty thing to do in a classical WC match.

There was a deliberate touching/lifting of a centralized piece, „shrugging“ and probably no announcement beforehand. Some referees comfirmed.

It was at least bad style IMHO. If not outright a rule violation.
