It's actually a pretty strong +1.2 for white, a bunch of lines end in quick checkmate.

It's an interesting idea and gives White a clear advantage according to the engine.
No name, but I can suggest 'Kalajzic's Folly' as he allowed this sacrifice in seven games on Chessbase. The results were not flattering - 1 win and 6 losses which shows how dangerous it is for Black.
As you pointed out, 3... Nf6 is much better and typically reached by the move order 1 e4 Nc6 2 Nf3 d6 3 d4 Nf6 and played in blitz by people like Carlsen, Firouzja, Praggnanandhaa, Nihal etc. Black can play g6 and transpose to a Pirc where White has already played Nf3 instead of some of the sharper options like the Austrian Attack.
