Nice Blog, Interesting Ideas, and Lots Of Help. Thank you for the blog, and please keep posting!
Thanks for reading
Could you help me find a way to improve my rating? I'm in the 1300s, BTW. Any advice?
For now I'd say play a lot (OTB rapid and classical if you have the chance) and solve lots of tactics.

I think that after reading this blog I am gonna probably improve a lot. @datajunkie thank you for this wonderful blog.
Glad to hear, but be careful about having high expectations for improvement!

Insightful, especially for older adult improvers such as myself that constantly worry about making the wrong move. And love the (apt) Baldwin quote.
It's harder for us adults to just 'have fun' playing, isn't it?
Glad you appreciated the quote, loved that book of his.

The part about losing on time feeling safer for your ego ("I blundered because I was low on time") is a crutch I have been using without realizing for a long time now. Thank you for that! I guess I'll start trying to set time objectives for myself to avoid getting so low on time. Using Lichess tutor, speed is one area where I'm completely behind my peers.
I was there for decades myself. Not an easy issue to work on (takes time) but improving that area, even if you make more mistakes in the adjusting phase, often feels like a weight off your chest.

Yup, thinking long can be effective depending on the position but probably in the majority of cases it's overthinking.

Another great post that you have presented. Insightful and the point about improvement being a trap lands and really think for me the focus on improvement is stressful and can take the joy out of playing. I really like this statement ..”When learning becomes the standard, every game has value. “. A focus shift for me to enjoy the learning and gameplay and let the rating results occur. Thank you

Thank you for your insightful post. I will save it as a reminder when my ego gets in the way of enjoying this game.
