How do you beat people that play wild for lack of better word

I’m still trying to learn how to play chess and have a very long way to go. However at least some of the time I try to think steps ahead. When I first started playing chess I would randomly move pieces around. I have noticed that other people that appear to be new to chess do the same thing. How do you counter opponents that play in this manner? To be fair I defiantly made some dumb mistakes in this game.

You need to count the attackers. At move 4 for black, d5 gives white 3 attackers: the pawn on e4, the pawn on c4, and the knight on c3. Black only has 2: the knight on f6 and the queen on d8.

If we add it up:

White has 1+1+3 = 5
Black has 3+9 = 12

Do you want to give your opponent 12 for their 5?

Why give them 7+ advantage?

@groovynwhippy You don't have to counter anything. If they want to waste time moving the same piece over and over then let them. You just carry on developing ALL of your pieces to nice healthy squares.

You want to get out of this bad habit of moving a Knight 7 times in opening.

Chess is all about tricks and tactics.
White just did a well known trick for which you fell.
All you need to know is learn tricks and their replies, that's all. No need to try counter attack.

basically, you want to focus on controlling the center of the board. (e4 e5 d4 d5) this can be achieved by moves like e4, nc3, nf3, c3 followed by d5 and others. But, you also need to count attackers and defenders. If White has 4 attackers pointing at a certain square, then you don't want to move a piece onto that square when you only have 2 defenders for that square (unless, of course, your defenders are pawns or less valuable pieces and the attackers are all more valuable pieces. If they piece value is equal on all of them, you don't want to move into a scenario where you have less defenders than your opponent has attackers)

Lichess notified me that I was redeemed the points lost during the match featured in my post due to my opponent violating the terms of service.

White was just much more skilled. What more can I say?

I feel like there was cheating going on. White played too good to be near your rating.
