From own experience of online blitz of an 1800 rating; do not play it ! blitz can help you only if you are FM or higher with sound knowledge of the game phases: opening, middle and endgame. In this case you can solidify and test your knowledge as suggested. Otherwise you will in matter of few weeks slide from 1800 down to 1500 . It has been discussed and confirmed already by a number of respected coaches. Why invent warm water now?

I disagree, I like playing quick and short games with a new opening, in order to better remember it. In a rapid game, you only get to play one opening every, say 20 minutes. But if you play bullet, you get to play the opening 10 times in the same amount of time. If I analyze every game, I get the chance to rectify the mistakes. This makes it easy for me to learn a new opening. The problem with bullet is that people at my level don't usually know the best moves, so the practice ends shallowly...

It's nice to see attention given to my favorite "Learn" feature on Lichess.

That is Damiano variation of Petrov. The mistake is playing 4. ... Nf6 instead of ...Qe7

I feel like the Petrov for a 1500 is a peculiar choice at best. Sure it is a decently rare variation so you win some games by default, but that shouldn't be the sole motivation for playing it. And I wouldn't even necessarily object to it because of the line in question. But between various gambits (at times dubiose but none the less challenging) and the numerous strategic lines that can arise, I simply can't feel comfortable with recommending it to anyone below 2000. Maybe I am thinking about this too much from a OTB perspective where preparation is very common but at the very least it should apply to online chess to a lesser extend as well.

i mean playing a lot of blitz helps time pressure when playing over the board - in a 20 + 5 and you are below 5 minutes.
