Russian chess player and grandmaster (2003) Sergey Karjakin stated that he intends to continue competing in tournaments despite being excluded from the International Chess Federation (FIDE) rating list.
"I won't give up so easily. If they don't let me compete now on a formal basis, then I'll find another way where I can compete. And we'll let them know. The real shame is that this was a completely fair match. There was a referee, there were spectators, we were playing on stage. And the boy tried, and I tried. But what happened, happened. They certainly won't break me with such petty mischief; we'll keep working," TASS quotes Karyakin as saying.
On February 28, Karjakin returned to the rankings and took 10th place with 2750 points. This is his first appearance in the FIDE ratings since 2024.
According to FIDE rules, a chess player is removed from the organization's rating list if they do not participate in tournaments for a year. Karjakin recently took part in a tournament organized by the Moscow Region Chess Federation, playing a match against Mikhail Markov.
In 2022, Karjakin was suspended from tournaments for six months for political reasons. After his suspension ended, he refused to participate in FIDE tournaments as a neutral player.
